According to The Telegraph, Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer is close to finalising a move to Brentford.

The Norwegian has been linked with a move away from Celtic Park for some time now, and it seems as though he’s finally found his next club in the shape of the Bees.

Indeed, it’s reported that Ajer is set for a medical with the London outfit within the next 24 hours.

Luckily, the Bhoys will be receiving a decent fee for the defender with Brentford set to cough up £13.5m for his services, which isn’t bad at all when you consider that he’s entering the final year of his contract.

That fee could end up rising to £15m with add-ons, so Celtic aren’t getting a bad deal at all for the player once labelled as ‘fantastic’ by Stephen Welsh.

Of course, Ajer swapping Glasgow for London will be something of a controversial move. It seemed as though Ajer was set to make a step up after leaving Celtic, with the likes of AC Milan strongly linked in the past, but with Brentford being a newly-promoted side, you’d have to say that this is something of a step backwards.

However, the Premier League is a cash cow these days, and sadly, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a move like this, nor will it be the last.
