According to The Sun, Oleksandr Zinchenko is considering rejecting Arsenal at the last minute to try and fight for his place at Manchester City.

The Athletic had reported that a deal had been agreed to bring Zinchenko to the Emirates this summer and that a medical had been pencilled in for the Ukrainian, but now, the deal seems to be hanging in the balance.

Of course, Arsenal fans may be more inclined to believe the likes of David Ornstein or Fabrizio Romano than a report from The Sun, but this piece has been penned by Martin Blackburn – one of the most reliable Manchester City journalists out there, so there may well be some weight to this.

This would be a massive blow for Arsenal. They looked as though they were on the verge of signing the ‘fantastic’ 25-year-old,  but now, at the eleventh hour, the deal could collapse.

The Gunners have seriously struggled to bolster this position in recent weeks. First of all they missed out on Lisandro Martinez as he joined Manchester United, and now, Zinchenko could stay in Manchester rather than join Arsenal.

To be fair, we can understand Zinchenko’s stance here. With all due respect, Manchester City are much more likely to be challenging for silverware than Arsenal this season, and as City struggle to progress a move for Marc Cucurella this summer, Zinchenko may well feel that he still has a place in Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Edu has a real job on his hands to convince Zinchenko to swap the Etihad for the Emirates this summer.

This remains a situation to keep a close eye on.
