The Athletic report that Fabio Paratici has been left ‘disappointed’ by Steve Hitchen’s decision to leave Tottenham after the January window came to an end. Spurs announced Hitchen’s exit on Wednesday evening.

Working as a technical performance director, replacing Paul Mitchell in February 2017. He has been often criticised as part of the reason for a lack of signings, but also credited for bringing in some decent players.

He did sign Tanguy Ndombele and Gio Lo Celso – but both were seen at the time as Mauricio Pochettino signings. Things went pear-shaped when Pochettino left a few months later. He also landed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Now, Hitchen leaves after five years at the club and having been close to Paratici – the club’s managing director – for the last two years, the Italian is said to be ‘disappointed’ at learning of Hitchen’s exit from Tottenham.

Paratici sad at Hitchen exit: Where next after leaving Tottenham?

Hitchen is said to be the front runner to replace Marcel Brands at Everton, and to work alongside Frank Lampard. A rebuilding job is needed at Goodison Park, and Hitchen will surely look at that role as tempting.

Newcastle are still yet to appoint a permanent sporting director after previous links with Michael Emenalo, Marc Overmars and plenty of other options. The Toon approached him after their takeover in October.

So, the chances are he remains in the Premier League. Could Spurs come to rue his exit? Well, Everton and Newcastle are certainly big enough – the latter especially, with their new-found cash – to rival Tottenham soon.
