According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar is attracting interest from teams in Italy as a move away becomes possible.

It’s claimed that initials talks have been held between Newcastle and Schar’s agent in order to discuss a new deal, but no agreement has been reached.

That means there are now doubts over Schar’s future, and it’s claimed that Newcastle are scouting for centre backs – possibly with Schar on the move.

Serie A clubs are thought to be interested in Schar, and Newcastle will now have a decision to make over the Swiss defender’s future.

Signed for just £3.5million in 2018, Schar has been popular at Newcastle, but he has suffered a frustrating season. Deployed in midfield against Watford yesterday, Schar was a huge disappointment.

Now 28 and with just one year left on his deal, it’s unclear how much Newcastle would get for him, and rumours linking him with a big move have died down.

The Mirror reported in March 2019 that Arsenal and Tottenham both wanted Schar, but that looks very unlikely now after a poor season.

With talks over a new deal stalling and Newcastle looking at other centre backs, Schar’s days look numbered – regardless of who is owning the club.
