The rumoured Wolverhampton Wanderers target has moved to Birmingham City instead.

A report in Tuesday’s printed edition of The Sun newspaper (page 51) explains why Wolverhampton Wanderers missed out on the signing of Sam Gallagher to Birmingham City.
Southampton’s Gallagher moved to St Andrew’s on a season-long loan on Monday, despite interest from Midlands trio Aston Villa, Derby County and Wolves.

And it is claimed that while the 21-year-old was ‘impressed by Birmingham boss Harry Redknapp’s sales pitch’, Wolves also missed out as they wanted guarantees of a permanent transfer at the end of the season.
As well as Gallagher, the Molineux side have also been linked with moves for Sheffield Wednesday’s Jordan Rhodes and Norwich City’s Nelson Oliveira.

But according to The Sun’s Football League correspondent Tom Barclay (page 15 of Monday’s Goals pullout), Oliveira’s wages would prove too much for Wolves.
The Norwich striker is – along with several Wolves players – represented by Jorge Mendes’ Gestifute agency, and looked to have thrown his future into doubt by celebrating in aggressive fashion his equaliser against Fulham on the season’s opening day.
Which striker – if any – will Wolves get their hands on this month?
