Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa are reportedly interested in Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has blocked Sam Johnstone’s potential move to Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to The Telegraph.

It has been reported that United boss Mourinho rejected a bid from Championship club Wolves to sign Johnstone on an emergency loan last Friday.

Injuries to Andy Lonergan and Carl Ikeme saw the Wanderers make a move for the 23-year-old goalkeeper for a week, but the United boss turned it down, according to the report.

The Telegraph has claimed that Mourinho made the decision to punish Wolves for their treatment of Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.

“It is understood United are unhappy with Wolves over the lack of playing time for defender Borthwick-Jackson, who seems certain to return to Old Trafford in January,” states the report.

“The teenager has made only seven appearances since signing on loan in August and the deal will be cut short in the New Year after he failed to play under new manager Paul Lambert.”

The Telegraph has further reported that Johnstone is now set to join Wolves’ Championship rivals Aston Villa on loan in January until the end of the season.

Villa are 13th in the Championship table at the moment with 28 points from 20 matches, just four points behind Leeds United, who are currently sixth in the standings and occupy the final playoff spot.

Meanwhile, Wolves currently find themselves 19th in the standings with 22 points from 20 games, just two points above the relegation zone.
