Aston Villa and Norwich City reportedly discussed a swap deal involving Robbie Brady and Ross McCormack.

According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa discussed swapping Ross McCormack for Robbie Brady – but Norwich wanted cash involved in the deal.

McCormack, 30, hit 42 goals in 100 games for Fulham before joining Villa in a big-money deal over the summer, with the Scot seen as a proven Championship player who could help Villa win promotion back to the Premier League.

However, McCormack has struggled to repay his transfer fee so far, notching just three goals and one assist in 19 Championship games, with Steve Bruce seemingly unconvinced by the former Cardiff City attacker.

His disappointing start to life at Villa Park has led to speculation surrounding McCormack’s future, and it appears that Villa were interested in engineering a swap deal with Championship rivals Norwich.

The Daily Mail report that Villa had proposed sending McCormack to Norwich in exchange for Robbie Brady, who is a favourite of Villa boss Bruce having worked together at former club Hull City.

Brady, 24, who can play at left back or on the left of midfield, starred for the Republic of Ireland at Euro 2016, and has hit three goals and three assists in the Championship for Norwich this season.

Bruce, who appears to be searching for a left-sided midfielder, would no doubt love to reunite with Brady, and after Villa beat Norwich to McCormack’s signature over the summer (Daily Mail), the Canaries have allegedly been offered the chance to finally sign McCormack.

However, it’s claimed that talks over a swap deal broke down when Norwich demanded cash plus McCormack in a deal for Brady, and it remains to be seen whether the deal can be resurrected this month.
