According to the Evening Standard, some players are now frustrated with Crystal Palace for a couple of reasons after their contracts expired.

What’s the story?

Well, now that June has ended, 11 players have left Crystal Palace as free agents.

The likes of Scott Dann, Patrick van Aanholt, Mamadou Sakho, Andros Townsend, Gary Cahill and Nathaniel Clyne are now out of contract.

Interestingly, they were told that they’d have to wait until the club found Roy Hodgson’s replacement before any new deals were sorted.

However, Christian Benteke – who’s deal was also expiring – signed a new contract while the Eagles remained managerless.

The Evening Standard claim that left some players frustrated, and you can understand why.

That’s not the only thing that’s upset some players.

The Evening Standard add that those who won’t be staying at Selhurst Park are frustrated they weren’t allowed to give the fans an official goodbye.

Hodgson was, as the club arranged a guard of honour for him, and also set up a microphone for him to give a speech after full-time.

However, the lack of organisation from Crystal Palace in dealing with expiring contracts meant players couldn’t do the same, as no-one knew they were definitely leaving at that point.

In all honesty, the south Londoners have made a real mess of this summer.

Hopefully, Steve Parish and Dougie Freedman can now find suitable replacement for those who’ve left in the transfer market.

If they can’t, then Crystal Palace will be in for a rocky 2021/22 campaign, in our view.
