A report in The Scottish Sun has claimed that Rangers decided against making a move for Barnsley star Conor Hourihane in the summer after deeming his asking price to be too high.
The Scottish Sun is reporting that both Old Firm sides are now tracking the 25-year-old after his incredibly impressive start to the season at Oakwell, while the Tykes’ Championship rivals Wigan and Aston Villa are also in the race for his signature.
But it appears that his wonderful start to the campaign will not have come as a surprise to the Gers as The Scottish Sun adds that the Irishman has been on their radar since their summer, and it was his price tag that proved to be too big a stumbling block.
While The Scottish Sun does not shed any light on what Barnsley’s price was, the Daily Mail reported back in April that a six-figure fee would be needed to make a deal happen.

Having spent over £1m on Joe Garner in the latter stages of the window (via Daily Record), it appears that the Light Blues had the funds to complete a deal during the summer, and if that is the case, they will surely kick themselves for not meeting the Yorkshire side’s demands.
Having shone in the Championship this term – he has scored three times and contributed four assists for Paul Heckingbottom’s men – his value is undoubtedly set to rise over the coming months, and with a handful of teams now also interested, a potential bidding war could result in that price rising further.
And with Mark Warburton’s summer additions to his midfield struggling to find their best form so far, he may be regretting not taking a chance on the former Plymouth man at an earlier opportunity.
