According to HLN, Crystal Palace and West Ham United have backed out of signing Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi over his wages and lack of re-sale value.

The Belgium international appears set to leave Chelsea this summer.

Batshuayi has just one year remaining on his deal at Stamford Bridge after joining the club from Marseille in 2016 in a deal worth around £33 million.

The 26-year-old just hasn’t got going at the club.

And with Timo Werner set to join Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud as striker options for Frank Lampard’s side, Batshuayi is to fall further down the pecking order.

HLN claim Palace and West Ham were keen on signing the player. However, the Premier League duo have since backed out over finances both short-term and long-term.

The Belgian editorial say Batshuayi’s £115,000 per week wages are too expensive. Furthermore, at nearly 27, the striker has little re-sale value.

For teams like Palace and West Ham to progress, the duo must look at buying top young players and selling them for big profits when the opportunity arises.

Players like Batshuayi are unlikely to fetch larger future fees while not greatly improving either Palace or West Ham’s first-team eleven in the short run.

Many tipped Batshuayi to follow in the footsteps of Belgian teammate Romelu Lukaku. It just hasn’t happened, with the striker netting only 13 Premier League goals since arriving in England.
