It has been reported that representatives of Chelsea and Dembele held a discussion regarding the forward’s future.
According to the report, the Premier League giants were prepared to pay the French forward around £65,000 per week which would increase to £100,000 over the course of the contract.
“After considering the offer, however, Dembele rejected the move because he would not be the first choice striker at Stamford Bridge,” adds the report in Glasgow Live.
Delight for Celtic fans
Celtic fans must be delighted with this development. It seems that Dembele is set to stay at the Bhoys for the 2017-18 campaign.
The 20-year-old’s decision to snub a massive salary at the Blues in order to play regular first-team football suggests that he is focused on his development as a footballer.
Dembele has established himself as the first-choice forward in Brendan Rodgers’s team, and it is great for Celtic that he wants to carry on playing at Celtic Park.
The former Fulham forward has scored 32 goals in 46 appearances in all competitions for Celtic so far this season.
