According to The Mirror, Liverpool are confident that they can strike a deal for Burnley defender Michael Keane this summer, having allegedly agreed personal terms with him.

Keane, 24, was cast aside by Manchester United in 2014, joining Burnley on loan before making that move permanent in 2015.

The centre back has flourished at Turf Moor, and not only helped the Clarets win promotion to the Premier League last season, but has been a key part of Sean Dyche’s side this term, playing a major role in the club’s Premier League survival.

Keane’s exploits earned him a first England cap against Germany back in March, and with his contract expiring in 2018, Burnley may be forced to cash in now before he leaves for nothing in just over a year.

Now, The Mirror report that Liverpool are growing increasingly confident of striking a deal for Keane, having allegedly agreed personal terms with the defender.

It’s stated that a move would cost around £25million, and Liverpool believe that they will win the race for his signature despite competition from the likes of Everton, Tottenham and former club Manchester United.

However, the report adds that Keane is waiting to see whether Liverpool qualify for the Champions League before totally committing himself to the Reds, meaning Jurgen Klopp’s men may face an anxious time hoping that he joins.

Whilst Dejan Lovren has improved from his first season with the club, adding Keane alongside Joel Matip could improve a shaky Liverpool defence, and the considerable investment would be seen as a major positive as the Reds look to challenge in the top four again.
