Liverpool signed Georginio Wijnaldum from Newcastle United in the summer of 2016.

It has been reported that Liverpool wanted to sign Keita from Salzburg in the summer of 2016.

However, the Premier League club failed in their endeavour, as the Guinea international midfielder had a long contract at Salzburg, who wanted to move him to RB Leipzig, according to The Times.

The report has also claimed that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp recruited 27-year-old Netherlands international midfielder Wijnaldum from Newcastle for £35 million instead.

Preparing for next season
Liverpool reached an agreement with Leipzig over the transfer of Keita last summer, and the 23-year-old midfielder will be at Anfield from the 2018-19 campaign onwards.
Keita was brilliant in the Bundesliga for the past two seasons, and the 23-year-old is one of the best young midfielders in Europe.
The arrival of the Guinea international at Anfield could make it tough for Wijnaldum to play regularly for Liverpool next season, as competition for places in the Reds’ midfield is fierce.
