Report explains why Carpi desperate to sell Mbakogu to Leeds by July 11

There is another deadline for Leeds to sign Jerry Mbakogu, it would appear, but the Whites are not interested.

Leeds United’s ongoing pursuit of Jerry Mbakogu is still ‘on’ according to the Italian media.

Mbakogu’s club Carpi are desperate to sell, despite their initial deadline of June 30 passing without Leeds rubber stamping a deal.

News outlet TV Qui report Carpi are keen to sell by July 11.

This is because Carpi need the money and wages off their books so they can bring in their own striker target Federico Melchiorri, a fan favourite who they are looking to bring back.

Carpi will be holding an event at their stadium on July 11 open to fans as they begin pre-season and they want to have Melchiorri ready to unveil.

To do so, they really need Mbakogu sold and off their books, and they are willing to accept a reduced offer.

Gianluca Di Marzio reported at the weekend that Carpi would accept £1.6 million for Mbakogu, half the previously agreed price.

The report from TV Qui claims this is because Carpi do not want any more time wasted and want a quick sale of Mbakogu.

To say they are pushing the Nigerian striker out of the door to Leeds is an understatement, but the Whites are yet to sanction a deal at their end with new boss Marcelo Bielsa unconvinced.

The Yorkshire Evening Post today report Leeds have written to Carpi to express their intention to pull out of a deal.

Carpi will have to find another suitor.
