The Aston Villa playmaker had to be taken off after just 39 minutes of the youth team’s game.

The Birmingham Mail has reported that Jack Grealish had to be replaced just 39 minutes into Aston Villa’s under-23 side’s victory over their Blackburn Rovers counterparts due to illness.

The playmaker has missed the Villans’ last three games due to suspension following an incident in the 1-1 draw with Wolves last month.

And supporters may have been worried when they heard that he had to be substituted six minutes before the break against Rovers at Banks’s Stadium.

However, the Mail is reporting that his early departure was due to an upset stomach. And while the lack of game-time is not ideal preparation if he is hoping to make a return for the first-team’s next game, coincidentally also against Blackburn, fans will be pleased that the problem does not appear to be more serious.

Though Grealish has struggled with consistency since breaking into the team, Steve Bruce will be pleased to have him back available after a three-game absence.

Although Villa have gone unbeaten through that period – and won their games against Reading and Fulham – the side could have perhaps done with his creativity in the draw with Birmingham.

And there is no question that at his best, he could be the kind of player that inspires Villa up the table and into the promotion mix.
