AC Milan do not expect to be able to sign Celtic striker Moussa Dembele this summer, but still plan to maintain links with the Hoops.

A report in the Daily Record has suggested that AC Milan want a second meeting with Moussa Dembele’s representatives despite the fact that they are holding out little hope of actually signing the Celtic striker this summer.

The Record reports that the Serie A giants have spoken with the 20-year-old’s representatives and hope to hold further talks in the near future, but not because they are expecting to make a move this summer.

Celtic are desperate to keep Dembele at Parkhead for another season as they try to make more of an impact in the Champions League, and the Record reports that Milan are ready to hold fire on making a concrete move, with the likes of Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund more likely to actually make a bid for the former Fulham star.

Instead, Milan are hoping that these preliminary talks will boost their chances of landing Dembele when he is ready to leave the Scottish Premiership champions in the future, with the Record reporting that a move in January or next summer is much more likely.

The news that Milan are seemingly not pursuing a move this summer because they do not expect Celtic to give any deal the green light will surely be pleasing for Hoops supporters.

Unfortunately, Dembele’s exit seems inevitable at some stage, but if the Frenchman stays for one more season, his potential would suggest that his value is likely to rise and he may help them make more of impact in the Champions League – which may make finding an adequate replacement much easier as they will have a greater amount of funds to work with and may have given a hint that they can be more of a force in Europe once again.
