Milan Skriniar was dropped by Inter Milan just a day after reports claimed that the Liverpool and Newcastle United target could be sold by Antonio Conte, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

The Slovakian powerhouse is no longer one of the first names on the Nerazzuri team-sheet.

And, if Gazzetta dello Sport is to be believed, he is no longer ‘unsellable’ either.

The 2019/20 campaign has not been a vintage one for Skrinar and, after struggling to adapt to Conte’s preferred three-man backline, speculation suggests that Inter are suddenly willing to consider offers of around £45 million.

Quite the change of heart, given that the 2010 European champions have spent the last few years batting away offers for an old-school scrapper of a centre-half.

Liverpool are allegedly interested in making Martin Skrtel’s international partner their big-name summer signing while, according to InterLive in June, Newcastle will target Skriniar too if Mohammed Bin Salman is pulling the strings this summer.

And with Skriniar left out of Inter’s starting XI for Monday’s 3-1 victory over Torino due to ‘technical reasons’, the doubts over his future are increasing in Italy.

Fuel, meet fire.

Skriniar appears to have paid the price for that needless red card in the closing minutes of a 3-3 home draw with Sassuolo which brought an end to Inter’s Scudetto challenge at the end of June.

Has he lost Conte’s faith? Is he now fourth in the pecking order, behind Diego Godin, Alessandro Bastoni and Stefan De Vrij?

For the first time in living memory, there are genuine questions to be asked of Skriniar’s future at the San Siro.
