The retired defender is closing in on taking the Aston Villa job.
Steve Bruce
A report in the Sunday People has explained one reason why Aston Villa owner Tony Xia will be happy approving the appointment of Steve Bruce.
The Sunday People reports that the former Hull City boss will be offered the chance to be Roberto Di Matteo’s successor imminently after they narrowed their search down to Bruce and current caretaker Steve Clarke.

The People adds however that Villa’s technical director Steve Round will have to run the decision to appoint Bruce by chief executive Keith Wyness as well as Xia.
But that is unlikely to see any spanners thrown into the works as the People reports that Xia is keen for the club’s new man to boast some kind of profile in the Far East. And with his connections to Manchester United during his playing days, the People reports that the 55-year-old has that base covered.

While Xia will be delighted that Bruce meets that criteria, he will surely be most pleased about the fact that they are set to appoint a man with vast amounts of experience in the Championship as they look to recover from their poor start.
Aston Villa are languishing in the bottom-half of the table, but Bruce has been promoted to the Premier League on four occasions during his managerial career, so is seemingly the ideal man to make sure they give themselves the best chance of getting back to the top table at the first possible opportunity.
