Newcastle United are once again tipped to bring Greek international Andreas Samaris to the Premier League from Primeira Liga powerhouses Benfica.
Newcastle United are only willing to sign Andreas Samaris on loan from Benfica this month, according to The Mail.
The experienced Greece international was heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park in the summer of 2017, The Sun reporting that The Magpies were willing to offer £18 million before Samaris decided that he wanted to stay at the Estadio da Luz.
The 29-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Benfica since, however, making just one Primeira Liga start all season.
And The Mail reports that Newcastle have renewed their interest. But, with funds tight once again, it is understood that they have asked about the possibility of signing Samaris on loan rather than on a permanent basis.
This will further frustrate Newcastle supporters, who have seen their club flounder in the transfer market once again with no new arrivals yet. A short-term deal for Lazio’s Belgian left-back Jordan Lukaku fell apart over the weekend due to concerns over his fitness, according to Sky Sports.
And with Samaris’ contract at Benfica expiring in July, why on earth would they loan him to Newcastle before losing him on a free?
