According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle United turned their attention towards Jordan Lukaku of Lazio after their move for AS Monaco star Antonio Barreca hit a snag.

It has also been reported that Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez is attracted to the brother of Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku due to his ability to play as both an orthodox left-back and a left wing-back in a back five.

According to The Northern Echo, the Magpies are hoping to secure the services of the 24-year-old Belgium international left-back imminently.

Good signing for Newcastle United?

Newcastle do need a left-back, and although Lukaku has not exactly been great for Lazio in recent times, the 24-year-old is a good player who will be a decent signing for the Magpies.

With Benitez’s side struggling for survival in the Premier League and not looking particularly good at the back, the signing of Lukaku is going to enhance their chances of escaping the dreaded drop to the Championship at the end often season.
