Rangers have been linked with a move to bring James Collins to Ibrox.

Rangers continue to be linked with a host of new signings, and the latest name to be touted is West Ham United defender James Collins.

The Gers have already snapped up Allan McGregor and Scott Arfield on free transfers, but more signings will be needed to get anywhere close to catching Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers are still attempting to spend cash on new signings such as Brighton and Hove Albion’s Connor Goldson, but another free agent has been linked with a move to Ibrox this summer.

James Collins of West Ham United warms up during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Leicester City at London Stadium on March 18, 2017 in Stratford, England.

The Scottish Sun reported on Friday that Rangers hold an interest in signing defender James Collins, who is a free agent having been released by West Ham United at the end of his contract.

However, The Mirror (Transfer Live blog, 17:15, Saturday, May 26, 2018), report that Collins is settled in the south of England and that could block a move to Middlesbrough, which would certainly rule out Rangers too.

Rangers are attempting to bring in an experienced defender this summer, and with efforts to sign Fenerbahce’s Martin Skrtel seemingly failing, Collins would fit the bill perfectly.

The Welshman, 34, is a tried-and-tested veteran, a leader at the back and an expert organiser in the heart of defence, Collins could be the signing that Rangers wanted Bruno Alves to be, whilst Gerrard will certainly know him from their Premier League encounters.

Yet with the defender settled in London, Rangers face a major problem in their attempts to sign Collins, and it may require a hefty wage package to tempt the veteran into a move to Glasgow this summer.
