Report explains Leeds’ decision behind accepting Samuel Saiz offer

Leeds United have confirmed that Samuel Saiz has left the club on loan ahead of the January transfer window.

A report from the Yorkshire Evening Post has suggested that Leeds decided to accept Getafe’s offer for Samuel Saiz as they chose against keeping the playmaker at the club in the hope of receiving a better bid.

It has now been confirmed that Saiz has left Elland Road on an initial loan deal with the option for the La Liga side to make the move permanent in the summer. The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that the future fee is believed to be in the region of £6 million.

While the move has been on the cards for a few days, it may still disappoint a number of the Elland Road faithful that the club have let one of their most talented players leave in a deal that will do their January transfer kitty few favours apart from perhaps clearing some space on the wage bill.

But the Yorkshire Evening Post has explained that Leeds felt that keeping Saiz around the club while he is unhappy could do more damage, and thus, they decided to accept Getafe’s offer rather than wait to see if another, more appealing bid arrived.

Saiz leaving has rocked the boat. But limiting the damage could be an incredibly smart move following the win at the weekend that has taken Marcelo Bielsa’s men to the top of the Championship.

Saiz’s form in recent months hints that Leeds will be able to cope without him if the remaining players step up. And the Whites have now avoided a situation where they would have had to deal with a couple of weeks of speculation at a time when they will want to focus all of their attention on matters on the pitch.
