According to Goal.com, Xherdan Shaqiri did not play for Liverpool against Arsenal on Thursday evening because he could leave before the summer transfer window closes next week.

It has been reported that at least two clubs are interested in signing the Switzerland international winger from Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp decided to leave the 28-year-old winger out of his squad for the Carabao Cup tie against Premier League rivals Arsenal at Anfield last night in case he suffered an injury, according to the report.

Liverpool exit makes sense

Shaqiri has been at Liverpool since 2018, and although he has played well on occasions, the winger has not really made a massive impact and has been essentially a squad player at Anfield.

According to WhoScored, the former Bayern Munich man made two starts and five substitute appearances in the Premier League last season, while back in 2018-19, he made 11 starts and 13 substitute appearances in the league.

Having won the Champions League and the Premier League with Liverpool, it would make sense for Shaqiri to now move on and play regularly for another top club.
