Celtic’s Moussa Dembele reportedly failed a medical with Tottenham in 2016.
Celtic’s Moussa Dembele
According to Get West London, the reason Moussa Dembele’s move to Tottenham Hotspur in January 2016 fell through was because he failed a medical.
Dembele, 20, hit 17 goals for Fulham in an impressive campaign last season, and moved on to Celtic when his contract expired at the end of last term.
The French attacker, formerly of Paris Saint-Germain, has excelled with the Bhoys this season, scoring 27 goals in just 41 games in all competitions – including two hat-tricks in his last three games.
Dembele now looks set to earn a big-money move in the near future, and Tottenham may well be kicking themselves having looked likely to join the club in January 2016 before the move fell through.
Many believed that the deal collapsed because Tottenham weren’t willing to loan Dembele back to Fulham for the second half of last season, but Get West London have today revealed that Dembele actually failed a medical with Spurs.
It’s claimed that the £6million deal fell through on medical grounds, though it isn’t disclosed just what Tottenham found over a year ago.
Celtic’s Moussa Dembele reacts
Celtic clearly weren’t concerned as they swooped to sign Dembele in a cut-price deal last summer, and the striker has tellingly suffered no injury problems this season and has already played more than 40 games this term.
Add in that Dembele had a fairly clean bill of health at Fulham as well, it would be interesting to find out what Tottenham felt would hold Dembele back had they have signed him.
Given that Vincent Janssen has still yet to score from open play since a summer move from AZ Alkmaar, and Tottenham will almost certainly be kicking themselves that they didn’t land Dembele, as he’s now worth at least £30million, and would have offered competition for Harry Kane in attack – but instead, Spurs felt that Dembele had some sort of medical issue, which he has made a mockery of so far.
