Djibril Sidibe’s loan deal at Everton is coming to an end but the Frenchman’s future is still up in the air.
The Monaco man has had his ups and downs this season at Goodison Park. Sidibe has looked incredible in attack but his positioning in defence has put Everton under a lot of pressure at times.
Everton do have an option to buy Sidibe permanently at the end of his loan spell. However, there is a lot to consider before they come to a conclusion regarding the Frenchman’s future.
Jonjoe Kenny will return from his impressive loan spell at Schalke this summer. A year’s experience in Germany will have had a positive impact on the young full-back and Everton might choose to keep hold of him.
That eliminates the need for Sidibe with Seamus Coleman also available for the Toffees next season.
However, L’Equipe have claimed today that Everton are planning to ask Monaco to extend Sidibe’s loan till the end of the 2020-21 season.
The report does not explain anything about Kenny’s future. They only claim that Everton aren’t in a position where they can spend £15 million for a right-back this summer.
Bringing Sidibe back for another season might mean that the Toffees are willing to let go of Kenny, either on another loan deal, or permanently this summer.
That would be a shame considering how well he has done at Schalke this season. The youngster was always tipped to be the heir to Coleman’s throne but his time at Goodison Park could have already come to an end, if the news about Sidibe is true.
