Scott Brown is yet to agree a new deal at Celtic despite the fresh offer remaining on the table at Parkhead.

Scott Brown and Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers congratulate each other during the Betfred Cup Final between Celtic and Aberdeen at Hampden Park on December 2, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

According to a report from the Daily Record, Scott Brown is still weighing up his options despite Celtic leaving a contract offer on the table for the Hoops captain.

Brown is out of contract at the end of the season. The 33-year-old has been a sensational signing for the Hoops and continued to be a stalwart of the side up until the Scottish Premiership clash with Hibernian in October that saw pick up an injury that he is only just returning from.

But Callum McGregor is now keeping him out of the team. And perhaps that may have come into Brown’s thinking as it appears that extending his stay at Parkhead is not going to be a formality at this stage.

The Record reports that there is a new deal on the table for Brown, but he is being given more time by the Hoops hierarchy as he continues to attract attention from Australia.

In fact, the Record adds that this week could be a crucial one as Brown looks to make a decision. Admirers Western Melbourne are set to find out whether they will be added to the A-League next season in the next 24 hours, and if they are given a spot, Brown is a player they have their eye on.

Celtic have proved in recent weeks that they will be able to cope without Brown should he move on in the coming months. But losing him would still be a blow given the example he sets.

He is a fantastic captain for the Hoops and will unquestionably leave a major void if he does go – even if Celtic are not struggling to make up for his absence on the pitch right now.
