Celtic could face competition for Jack Hendry’s signature.
According to the Daily Mail, Southampton watched Dundee defender Jack Hendry in action on Tuesday – against the club he is expected to join, Celtic.
Centre back Hendry, 22, only joined Dundee from Wigan Athletic over the summer, but has impressed hugely in his five months at Dens Park.
Hendry’s performances caught the eye of Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers earlier this season, and recent reports have suggested that the Scot could end up joining the Bhoys.
The Scottish Herald recently reported that Hendry is expected to join Celtic in January before being loaned back to Dundee, but Rodgers may now face some late competition.
The Daily Mail report that Southampton watched Hendry in action on Boxing Day, as Dundee ironically took on the team he is expected to join, Celtic.
Hendry played 90 minutes as Celtic ran out 2-0 winners, and it remains to be seen whether Southampton follow up their interest with a January bid.
The Saints are expected to lose star centre back Virgil van Dijk in January, and whilst Hendry wouldn’t be a direct replacement for the Dutch international, he would give Mauricio Pellegrino more depth at the back.
With Southampton leaking five gaols against Tottenham on Boxing Day, they are in need of defensive reinforcements – and could now look to rival Celtic for Hendry’s signature.
