According to The Guardian, Issa Diop’s ankle injury could keep him out for the rest of the season in a real blow for West Ham.
The French defender may not be one of the Hammers’ most important players, but at this moment in time, the London club can’t afford to lose another centre-half.
Angelo Ogbonna suffered a season-ending injury back in November against Liverpool, while Kurt Zouma’s ankle injury is another that could keep him out for the remainder of the campaign.
We’re heading into the business-end of the season, and at the moment, Craig Dawson is the Hammers’ only fit senior centre-half, and it’s fair to say that’s less than ideal with a Europa League semi-final on the horizon.
Luckily, West Ham do have the option to play Declan Rice as a centre-half – a position he played as a youngster, but they would be sacrificing a lot from their midfield if they were to force the England star to shift roles.
Diop had been in fine form as of late, and he’s even recently been described as ‘excellent’ by Dawson.
Unfortunately, it looks as though he will be out for the remainder of the campaign, and if West Ham are to win the Europa League, they’ll have to do it with something of a makeshift defence.
