Slaven Bilic is understood to be interested in becoming the new Celtic boss after Ange Postecoglou’s move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Celtic are looking for a new manager after Ange Postecoglou’s exit and Slaven Bilic is thought to be keen on the job.

That is according to TalkSPORT, who claim to have spoken to a source close to Bilic.

The source in question claims that Bilic would be ‘very interested’ in becoming the new Celtic manager.

Bilic’s history of derbies in London, Moscow, Liverpool and Istanbul – as a player and manager – were highlighted as making him a good fit for the Glasgow cauldron.

“Of course, Slaven would be very interested in the Celtic job. They are a massive club with a fantastic tradition and history. These are things that are very important to Slaven,” said the unnamed source.

“As a player at Everton, he was teammates with lots of Scottish players and knows a lot about Scottish football. He knows all about the intense rivalries and has been part of many derbies in football, in London, Moscow, Liverpool, and Istanbul. His passion as a player and a coach is a good fit for the Celtic job,” they added.

A number of names have been linked with the Celtic job in recent days with Postecoglou completing his move to Tottenham on Tuesday morning.

Graham Potter, Jesse Marsch and Enzo Maresca are just some of the names in the mix in recent days.

Whether Celtic would consider Bilic is up for debate, but the Croatian seemingly has a real interest in the Parkhead hot seat.

Slaven Bilic once said he would ‘walk to Glasgow’ for Celtic

It’s no huge surprise to hear that Bilic fancies a move to Celtic.

Bilic stated in 2010 that he would love to manage one of the two Glasgow giants, Celtic or Rangers.

Bilic outlined that this would be a ‘big honour’, and he would ‘walk to Glasgow’ to manage Celtic or Rangers if they offered him the chance.

Fast forward 13 years and it’s hard to imagine that Bilic’s stance has changed – especially given his recent history.

Bilic’s record as a manager has dropped in recent years, certainly since guiding West Ham into Europe back in 2016.

The 54-year-old managed just 20 games at Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia before returning to England with West Bromwich Albion.

Bilic did get at West Brom promoted out of the Championship but was sacked five months into the campaign.

A move to China materialised with Beijing Guoan, but Bilic struggled with just nine wins in 29 games.

Bilic made another return to England by joining Watford in September, but he unsurprisingly didn’t last long and was sacked in March.

Bilic has become a managerial nomad in recent times and his lack of consistent success may leave Celtic to dodge a move even if he is interested.
