Dave Jones is reportedly keen on returning to Southampton – but not as manager.

According to the Daily Mail, Dave Jones fancies a return to Southampton – but he’s eyeing the director of football role rather than Ralph Hasenhuttl’s job.
The Saints were embarrassed on Friday night, as Leicester City smashed them 9-0 at home in a completely humiliating night for all connected with Southampton.
Hasenhuttl’s job is under increasing scrutiny after that defeat, as it’s hard for any manager to bounce back from a complete thrashing at home.
However, Southampton need to find a new director of football, having seen Ross Wilson leave the club for Rangers earlier this month.
It’s now claimed that Jones is keen on the job, seemingly eyeing up a return to Southampton some 19 years since he left the club.
Jones became Southampton manager in 1997 after an impressive spell at Stockport County, and 37 of his 113 games in charge of the Saints before leaving in 2000 to be succeeded by Glenn Hoddle.

Spells with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Cardiff City, Sheffield Wednesday and Hartlepool followed, but Jones has been out of a job in football since April 2017.
The 63-year-old isn’t looking to take over Hasenhuttl’s job, as that would be almost impossible to imagine, but the Saints may yet be looking for somebody with more experience in that director role than Jones, despite his links to the club.
