Pedro Caixinha has been lined up for a new job just three weeks after his disastrous reign at Rangers came to an end.
Pedro Caixinha’s short-lived spell in charge of Rangers ended with a 1-1 draw against Kilmarnock in October. Two months later, the currently jobless Portuguese could be pitting his wits against Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid in the quest to be named the world’s greatest club side.
The Daily Record report that Caixinha is a wanted man in Mexico, where he has an excellent reputation after leading Santos Laguna to three trophies between 2013 and 2015 including the Liga MX title.
The report claims that Caixinha could be offered a quick return to management with Pachuca, who won the CONCACAF Champions League last season. The 46-year-old is on a three-man shortlist alongside ex-Mexico boss Jose Manuel de la Torre and Victor Manuel Vucetich, a hero at Pachuca who led the club to the title 14 years ago.
And if Caixinha does take the job, he would not exactly be eased into his new surroundings. Pachuca are set to face Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca, the reigning CAF Champions League winners, in the quarter finals of the Club World Cup in December.
If Pachuca make it to the final in the United Arab Emirates, they will more than likely come up against a Real Madrid side hoping to list the prestigious trophy for the second straight season after they beat Japanese side Kashima Antlers in the 2016 edition.
Caixinha will be quite the way from Kilmarnock.
