Rangers terminated Caixinha’s contract on Thursday after a disappointing seven months at Ibrox.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha is seen prior to the Betfred League Cup Quarter Final at Firhill Stadium on September 19, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Former Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha is being eyed by a Mexican club with strong links to Celtic less than 24 hours after leaving Ibrox, according to the Scottish Sun.

Rangers sacked Caixinha on Thursday afternoon, following a disappointing seven months under the Portuguese coach.

But it is claimed that Caixinha could soon be back in management with Santos Laguna – a partner club of Rangers old firm rivals Celtic, and whom he led to the Mexican title in 2015.

Managerless Santos are currently 13th in Liga MX, having sacked Jose Manuel de la Torre last month. And it is claimed the club’s fans have already launched a campaign for Caixinha’s return.

Roberto Gómez Junco, a former Mexico international turned television pundit, is quoted by the Scottish Sun as saying: “Pedro must come back to Santos.

“The fans want it, the board want it. It makes perfect sense.

“There is nothing to stop him now that his Scottish adventure is over.”

Celtic, who currently lead Rangers by eight points at the top of the Scottish Premiership, announced a partnership with Santos in 2011.

Caixinha even congratulated Celtic on their second title success under Ronny Deila, while in charge of the Torreón outfit.
