According to the Scottish Daily Mail, Lucien Favre is throwing his hat into the ring to become the new Celtic boss.
It’s claimed that Favre is interested in taking the reins at Parkhead as Celtic look to find a replacement for Neil Lennon.
Lyon and Bayer Leverkusen are also thought to be keen on Favre, who was axed as Borussia Dortmund boss in December.
At 63, Favre isn’t a young up-and-comer to challenge Steven Gerrard, but it’s hard to imagine a better candidate will emerge.
The Swiss coach has consistently built impressive sides with Borussia Monchengladbach, Nice and Dortmund, qualifying into the Champions League with all three sides.
That’s what Celtic need after repeated European disappointments, with Favre potentially the veteran head that the Bhoys are seeking.
Favre utilised both 4-2-3-1 and 3-4-2-1 systems at Dortmund, two approaches that could mesh well with the current Celtic squad.
Favre has been ‘often compared to Jurgen Klopp’ in football circles according to Gladbach chief Max Eberl, though he feels the two actually have clear differences.
Other candidates are in the running, but Favre looks to be an outstanding candidate based on how he built up the likes of Gladbach and Nice, and Celtic should certainly be looking to speak to Favre if he really is interested.
