According to The Athletic, Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles is ‘very unlikely’ to join West Bromwich Albion on transfer deadline day.

It has been reported that West Brom manager Sam Allardyce wants to bring Maitland-Niles to The Hawthorns on loan for the rest of the season.

However, the 23-year-old England international, who can operate as a full-back or as a midfielder, is now deciding between Leicester City and Southampton, according to the report.

No need to worry for West Bromwich Albion?

Maitland-Niles is a very talented and promising young player who is “evolving really good”, according to comments from Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta in Football.London in December 2020.

While it will be a blow for West Brom that they are unlikely to sign Maitland-Niles, it seems that the Baggies already have identified an alternative.

The Athletic, has reported that West Brom are interested in signing Japhet Tanganga on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

The 21-year-old can play as a central defender or as a right-back, and he would be a good signing for the Baggies in the short term, as they aim to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
