Derby County and Wigan Athletic both want Everton defender Matthew Pennington, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Derby failed to earn promotion at the weekend, and they see Pennington as a potentially good addition to Frank Lampard’s squad.

Pennington has been loaned out by Everton over the past two seasons and he has done a solid job in the Championship.

A clutch of second tier clubs are now said to be chasing the centre-back, with Everton set to sell the 24-year-old.

Marco Silva didn’t use Pennington at all last season, as he was out on loan at Ipswich Town, and he does not seem to have done enough to convince the Portuguese boss to give him a chance at Goodison Park.

With Pennington being 24, it seems that his time at Everton is coming to an end, as he can no longer be considered a promising youngster.

And the Liverpool Echo suggest that Everton won’t struggle to find a buyer.

Both Derby and Wigan are listed as clubs who would be keen to buy Pennington this summer, as his Everton exit edges ever closer.
