Foot Mercato in France has reported that Everton’s Director of Football Marcel Brands is a long-time fan of Lyon winger Bertrand Traore.

Everton and Liverpool have been linked with a move for the jet-heeled star, valued at £40 million by the Ligue 1 side [The Daily Mail].

It remains to be seen where he ends up but, according to Foot Mercato, the Dutch director has been an admirer of the 23-year-old for some time.

The French publication states that Brands tried to sign him for PSV Eindhoven during his lengthy spell in charge of transfers at the Eredivisie club.

Traore is contracted to Lyon until 2022 and scored 13 goals across all competitions last season.

He, like so many of his team-mates, is considered very hot property at the moment and it’ll be tough for the Toffees to hold off Liverpool, especially if they win the Champions League next week.

If the Reds want him, then Jurgen Klopp has a project so very enticing to any player and Brands, a long-time fan or not, could just miss out on him again.
