According to a report in the Daily Mail, Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has caught his eye with his distribution in England training.

Gareth Southgate wants to play a possession based game at the World Cup and there is now a feeling that Pickford may be best suited to the goalkeeping role.

The Everton stopper’s kicking is one of his major strengths, as he can belt it long or play short.

And Southgate is now set to start Pickford against Holland tomorrow evening, with the youngster potentially winning the race to be England’s number one in Russia.

England’s goalkeeping spot is very much up for grabs, with Southgate assessing all four of his options over this international break.

Pickford is in the England squad alongside Burnley’s Nick Pope, West Ham United’s Joe Hart and Stoke City’s Jack Butland.

Pickford has actually been shaky form of Everton of late, with a few errors creeping into his game.

But he been one of the Toffees’ most consistent performers over the duration of the season, and it seems that Southgate is keen to recognise the youngster’s talents.
