Everton defender Jonjoe Kenny looks set to spend the coming season with the Bundesliga side.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Jonjoe Kenny is set to complete his loan move to Schalke this week, with the deal potentially leaving the door open for the Everton youngster to complete a permanent switch to the Bundesliga side.

It may have surprised some supporters when Kenny was linked with David Wagner’s men. The 22-year-old made 10 Premier League appearances for Marco Silva’s side this past season – but it appears that there is a chance that the 3-2 defeat to Newcastle in March could prove to be his final game for the Toffees.

The Daily Mail has suggested that Kenny is close to completing his move to Schalke and it should be finalised this week. And there is a possibility that the right-back could end up making a permanent move at some stage in the future.

Good move for Everton?

With Mason Holgate returning from an impressive loan spell at West Brom, it does look to be a good move to let Kenny leave Goodison Park to get some first-team football under his belt. But it is interesting that there is a possibility that he could leave permanently.

He is reaching an age where the prospect of his potential can only take him so far. But there have been glimpses of his quality during his time in the first-team, and it would not be a huge surprise if he proved to be a success in Germany.

He has a long way to go to make the Toffees rue their decision to let him leave. But given how some English players have got on after heading to Germany, perhaps it would be premature to write him off being a major success as part of Wagner’s side.
