Everton midfielder James McCarthy is set for a move to Crystal Palace.
According to the Daily Mail, Everton midfielder James McCarthy is set for a medical with Crystal Palace ahead of an £8millio move to Selhurst Park.
McCarthy, 28, has spent six years with Everton having followed Roberto Martinez from Wigan to Goodison Park in 2013, and he initially starred for the Toffees.
The midfielder was linked with moves to the Premier League big boys, but injuries have ravaged him in recent years, limiting him to just 17 league appearances in the last three seasons.
Now, with Jean-Philippe Gbamin signed and other midfielders wanted, McCarthy may now be on the move, and it’s claimed that he’s heading to Palace for a medical ahead of an £8million move.
It’s claimed that Celtic and Newcastle both wanted McCarthy, but Roy Hodgson has pipped both clubs to a deal, and he should join Palace before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
The report also notes that the move impacts Wilfried Zaha, as McCarthy heading to Palace is a completely separate move from Everton’s pursuit of Zaha.
Everton had been looking to include McCarthy in a move for Zaha, but that own’t be the case – and may be a blow to Everton’s hopes of signing the winger before Thursday.
There’s still a chance for Everton, and they’ve been able to add a little money to their kitty to fund a move, but a part-exchange deal seemingly won’t be happening.
