Everton have reportedly failed with a move for Watford’s Marco Silva.
According to The Independent, Everton have failed with a move to lure Watford boss Marco Silva to Goodison Park – but he is interested in a move to Merseyside.
The Toffees sacked manager Ronald Koeman last month after a torrid start to the season, with five defeats in nine Premier League outings costing the Dutchman his job after 16 months in charge.
Caretaker boss David Unsworth has won just once in his four games in charge, and whilst he could land the job on a longer-term basis, Everton have today made a move for another manager.
The Independent report that Everton made a move to land Watford manager Marco Silva, but the Hornets have rejected that approach in a bid to keep their Portuguese boss at Vicarage Road.
It’s claimed that Watford don’t want to lose Silva midway through the season, but also that Silva himself is interested in a move to Everton, and would be keen to speak to the Toffees if the two clubs can strike a deal.
Silva, 40, was the surprise choice to take over as Hull City manager back in January, and whilst he couldn’t keep the Tigers in the top flight, he did impress enough to land the Watford job over the summer.
Silva has already grabbed attention as Watford boss, and whilst three defeats in a row has been disappointing, the Hornets are showing real promise under Silva’s guise, as his stock continues to rise in England.
Everton may still hold out hope of securing a deal, but Watford are understandably desperate to keep the former Sporting Lisbon and Olympiakos manager, meaning the Toffees may have to move on to another target.
