Aston Villa are said to have missed out to Everton for the winger’s signing in January.

Everton’s deliberation has prompted Aston Villa to revive their interest in Anton Donkor, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The Wolfsburg winger spent the second half of last season on loan to Everton, who allowed him to return prematurely after he sustained an ankle injury.

The Toffees had a £1.5 million agreement in place to sign Donkor permanently this summer, although they are said to be “yet to decide” whether or not to do so.

And according to the Birmingham Mail, Villa, who were linked with the 19-year-old in January, are closely monitoring the situation.

Donkor is still awaiting his first senior appearance for any club, but has been capped by Germany’s Under-20 side, and it is likely he would be viewed as a signing for the future, should Villa pounce this summer.

The report states that Villans boss Steve Bruce wants to make four first-team additions this closed season, although his priority is to offload those who no longer have a future at Villa Park.

Would Donkor be a good signing for Aston Villa, if Everton step aside?
