Morgan Feeney has suffered a bitter blow after breaking into the Everton first team.
Everton defender Morgan Feeney has suffered a devastating injury blow, according to the Liverpool Echo, as he prepares to go under the knife for a double operation on both knees.
The 19-year-old has “sought advice” from specialists and the result is that Everton’s reserve team captain will now travel to Sweden before correcting a tendon issue in both of his knees.
The decision to undergo double surgery will mean the Bootle-born defender will now be sidelined for the rest of the season, just as he begins to make an impression on the first team this season.
The one-time England Under-19 international made his debut in the Europa League against Serie A outfit Atalanta in a dismal 5-1 loss as a substitute, before featuring for the entire 90 minutes against Apollon Limassol in Cyprus.
His efforts saw him given a new contract at Goodison Park in December which will last until the summer of 2020, but he now has a huge setback to overcome if he is to break into the Toffees’ first team.
He remains behind the likes of Phil Jagielka, Ashley Williams, Ramiro Funes Mori, Michael Keane and Mason Holgate in the Everton pecking order.
