Everton wanted to send Ademola Lookman to Derby County on loan, according to the Independent.
Lookman made a surprise move away from Goodison Park in the final hours of the January transfer window, joining RB Leipzig until the end of the season on a temporary basis.
Afterwards, Everton’s manager Sam Allardyce described the winger’s exit as ‘one of the most unusual situations’ he has been in, with other options lined up instead.
Allardyce claimed, however, that Lookman was adamant about Leipzig, adding that the player’s ‘stubbornness meant he got his own way’.
According to the Independent, Derby was Everton’s preferred destination. However, the Rams appear to have moved on quickly from Lookman, landing Chelsea’s Kasey Palmer on loan instead.
Derby are on course for automatic promotion from the Championship, although Lookman could help Leipzig – who are fifth in the Bundesliga – to qualify for a second successive Champions League campaign.
Allardyce said: “I hope he proves us all wrong”.
Lookman only moved to Everton a year ago, in an initial £7.92 million deal from Charlton Athletic [Transfermarkt], but has only started eight of his 24 appearances for the Toffees – scoring three goals.
