Everton are reportedly keen on giving Callum Lang the chance to become the latest Football League starlet to head to Goodison Park.

According to a report from ESPN, Everton are planning a move for Wigan Athletic starlet Callum Lang during the summer after his hugely impressive year out on loan.

Lang used to be a part of Liverpool’s academy and has made a handful of appearances for the Latics, but has really made a name for himself out on loan with Morecambe this term. His 10 goals not only made him the side’s top goalscorer, but they also played a massive part in the Shrimps staying in the Football League with only goal difference keeping them above relegated Barnet when the League Two campaign concluded.

The 19-year-old’s form made him the second highest scoring teenager in the Football League behind Ryan Sessegnon, and ESPN is now reporting that Everton are eyeing a bid for the Latics starlet during the upcoming window.

The Toffees have offered several impressive youngsters the chance to make the step up in recent years, and they appear to be hoping that Lang may be ready to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Ademola Lookman, John Stones and Mason Holgate by making the move to Goodison Park.

With The Sun (13/05; page 63) reporting that they are also looking at bringing Tom Pearce back following his emergence at Leeds United in recent months, it would certainly appear that Everton are determined to continue scouting the divisions below the Premier League in a bid to uncover some real gems.

It is perhaps not out of the question to suggest Wigan’s promotion to the Championship may work against the Latics as they look to keep Lang. They may ultimately offer the quicker route to the first-team, but perhaps neither they or Everton will be able to offer that immediate chance, and if that proves to be the case, he may feel that he could be better off seeking a move to the top flight.
