According to the Daily Mirror, Everton have joined the race for Swansea City’s Alfie Mawson.

Everton are looking to strengthen their defensive options for next season, and Mawson is thought to be on their wishlist.

The English defender looks almost certain to leave Swansea this summer, following their relegation from the Premier League.

West Ham United, Leicester City and Watford are said to be interested, but Everton have now also joined the race.

Swansea value the centre-back at £40 million, according to the Times, but Everton do have funds to spend and need an injection of quality at the back.

Sam Allardyce’s side have had their problems defensively this season, with a new centre-back likely to be high on the club’s list of priorities for the summer.

If Mawson was to arrive at Goodison Park he would be in competition with the likes of Ashley Williams, Phil Jagielka and Ramiro Funes Mori for a first-team place.
