Report: Everton want Sporting Lisbon superstar Gelson Martins

Everton are reportedly keen on signing Sporting Lisbon’s Martins, after Arsenal are said to have had a bid rejected.

Portuguese outlet A Bola have claimed that Everton are interested in signing Sporting Lisbon wizard Gelson Martins this summer, despite plenty of Premier League interest in the winger.

Everton are said to have their eye on three Sporting stars, with the club previously linked with striker Bas Dost and Willian Carvalho. But the link to Portugal international Martins is new.

The 23-year-old wowed Portuguese fans last season with an incredible record of 13 goals and 13 assists throughout the 2017-18 campaign, as Sporting finished third behind Porto and Benfica.

The Sun reported earlier this week that Arsenal have had a £26million bid rejected for Martins, with the club said to be holding out for a huge £39million. He has a release clause of £53million.

But that has not deterred The Toffees, with new director of football Marcel Brands and manager Marco Silva looking to orchestrate a summer revamp on Merseyside.

Martins still has four years remaining on his contract at Sporting, but with interest rife, he is expected to be one to watch in the transfer window this summer. With Everton now entering the fray, his future is an interesting one.
