Everton have been linked with Roma forward Edin Dzeko.
According to Rome-based newspaper Il Messaggero, Everton want to snap up Roma striker Edin Dzeko, possibly during this month’s transfer window.
The Toffees have been struggling for goals of late, outside of their thrashing of Burnley, and Marco Silva may need to work to find the right formula in attack.
Winger Richarlison has been converted into a striker but may be better off out wide, meaning a striker may be Everton’s top priority this month – just a year after signing Cenk Tosun from Besiktas.
Now, Il Messaggero report that Everton want to land Roma striker Dzeko, who is now inside the last 18 months of his contract at the Stadio Olimpico.
The Bosnian, 32, twice won the Premier League title with Manchester City in 2012 and 2014, and a return to the North West may be appealing to him.
Dzeko has been a goal machine in Italy, hitting 80 goals in 159 games for Roma, and Everton may well be able to convince them to sell given his contract situation.
Despite his credentials though, this seems like a move that Everton director of football Marcel Brands wouldn’t really make, and is seemingly trying to get away from.
Everton’s summer business saw them mostly sign players between 21 and 26; Yerry Mina, Lucas Digne, Bernard and Richarlison for instance. The aim is to get players with ability now but also some resale value, and as impressive as Dzeko’s scoring record is with Roma, it could be a surprise to see Everton pay up for a striker who turns 33 in March.
