CalcioMercato claim Everton have joined Milan and Marseille – as well as Newcastle and Tottenham – in the race to sign Roma midfielder Jordan Veretout. The report claims a bargain £13million is required to land the Frenchman.
Eagle-eyed Premier League fans might remember the 29-year-old from his ill-fated two-year stint at Aston Villa. Joining from Nantes in 2015, he was part of the Villa side that was relegated. He went on loan to St. Etienne in 2016.
He was then sold permanently and has since rebuilt his career, starring at Roma over the last three seasons. He has had a hand in 38 goals from the middle of the park in 130 games, helping Roma win the Conference League last term.

But Roma are expected to have an overhaul this summer and Nemanja Matic has already come in on a free. The report says Everton have joined Milan and Marseille in the race for Veretout. Newcastle and Spurs are also being linked.
Despite having two years left on the four-year deal he signed after an initial year’s loan at Roma in 2020, Mourinho is willing to wave goodbye for a knockdown price of just £13million. That is despite his 14 goals and assists last term.
Everton have joined race to sign Veretout
So, which club is best for Veretout? He would struggle to get into Milan’s midfield. A return to France will be seriously tempting, with Marseille qualifying for Champions League football – they are likely to be on pole.
But he may feel he has unfinished business in England after his Villa spell. Certainly, the wages will be larger in England. A move to Everton would see him start every week, as would Newcastle. Spurs, not so much.
Tottenham have just brought in Yves Bissouma and now have five first-team options in midfield. So, Marseille, Everton or Newcastle would be his best move in the coming weeks or months.
