According to The Sunday Mirror (17th May, p63), Everton have joined the race to sign Saint-Etienne winger Denis Bouanga this summer.

It’s claimed that Saint-Etienne need to sell players this summer. This is likely to be a common theme across Europe given the global pandemic, and Everton could swoop.

Bouanga is one of Saint-Etienne’s top performers, and Everton are now thought to be keen on bringing him to Goodison Park this summer.

The Gabon star could move for just £8million, and that would fit into Everton’s budget even in light of the financial impact of the global pandemic.

Bouanga, 25, has bounced around a few French sides now. He’s turned out for Le Mans, Lorient, Strasbourg, Tours and Nimes, but has really made a name for himself at Saint-Etienne.

With 12 goals and five assists this season, Bouanga has starred since joining Saint-Etienne last summer. Primarily a left-sided winger, Bouanga can also play on the right.

Everton really need a right winger rather than another left-sided player. Bernard and Alex Iwobi would ideally play on the left, whilst Richarlison can play there too.

Maybe Everton feel that Bouanga is just too good to pass up at £8million, but they will surely face a real battle for his signature at that price.
