Everton are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks but, according to Eurosport, a deal for Norwich City’s Max Aarons looks unlikely.

Carlo Ancelotti returned to his catenaccio roots to get Everton’s stuttering season back on track and, after beating Chelsea and Leicester City, The Toffees are once again dreaming of a European push in 2021.

And the January transfer window offers the ideal opportunity for Marcel Brands and Farhad Moshiri to add some extra quality to Ancelotti’s squad ahead of what will be a gruelling battle for a top-six place.

Eurosport believes a midfielder with international experience is at the top of Everton’s wish list.

Sami Khedira, the Juventus veteran who worked with Ancelotti at Real Madrid and dreams of playing Premier League football, is one option.

The other, England ace Winks, would cost a darn sight more than the 33-year-old World Cup winner. Hardly a typical Jose Mourinho player, the Spurs academy graduate hasn’t featured in the Premier League since October’s 3-3 draw with West Ham United and will be allowed to leave for the right price.

Winks is expected to cost a minimum of £40 million, however.

It remains to be seen whether Everton can realistically finance a deal for a man who, in theory, would provide a calm, controlling presence alongside the energy and tenacity of Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan.

Eurosport claims the Merseyside giants are also keen to bring in a right-back to provide competition for Seamus Coleman.

The jet-heeled Aarons is valued in the £30 million bracket by Norwich, however, and Everton may have to look elsewhere (Daily Mail).
